We are thrilled to open nominations for the IDA Ontario Literacy Leader of the Year Awards! This award celebrates outstanding Ontario educators who are leading the way in structured literacy, making a meaningful impact in their schools and boards, and advancing the mission of Until Everyone Can Read.

 

About the Award: 

The Literacy Leader of the Year Award is a prestigious honour that acknowledges the dedication and expertise of Ontario educators. Across Ontario, inequities persist, and strong leadership is essential. This award recognizes educators who have made significant strides in ensuring that all students realize their right to learn to read. These individuals serve as beacons of inspiration, guiding the way toward a brighter, more literate future for all.

 

Each of the 4 winners will receive a complimentary conference ticket and be recognized at the 2026 Literacy & Learning Conference.

 

Nominee Eligibility:

We invite nominations of educators who meet the following criteria:

1. Work full-time in publicly funded Ontario school board or First Nation school;

2. Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills in their efforts to support structured literacy for all;

3. Make a positive impact on their class, school or board and the students it serves.

 

Nomination and Selection Process: 

Application Deadline: January 23, 2026

Applicants will be notified by February 20, 2026

 

The IDA Ontario Board of Directors will carefully review all nominations to select the award recipients. Awardees will be chosen based on their contributions to their community, the depth of their impact, and their commitment to structured literacy for all Ontario students.
